Jameson Grant

New York City-based Painter

01.06.2019  -  31.08.2019

Jameson Grant is a painter based in New York whose work represents a casualist, personal reinterpretation of classic painting tropes.

Summer 2019, Grant joins SomoS as an Artist-in-Residence, working on a new body of paintings and prints in preparation of his August 2019 solo exhibition at SomoS’ exhibition space.

As Grant states of his work,

The image is realized through a drawing practice which records quotidian observations of light and form. While the result may be simultaneously a tree, a humanoid form, an exhaust pipe, a family heirloom, a coat rack, a street sign, a self portrait, a painting, etc., what’s important is that it has an individual particularity which is observed. The multivalence of the object willfully instills the notion of disorientation in an attempt to in some way reflect what it feels like to be alive today. The figure becomes both image and object, like a character from a letterpress type set. Through repetition the object is both designed and, in an ardently romantic sense, Painted.
